Call 1-800-923-7021What Is Individual Counseling?
Individual counseling (also called individual therapy or one-on-one therapy) involves regular private sessions between you and your assigned licensed counselor. These sessions provide a safe, confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that contribute to your substance use — and to develop the skills and strategies needed to sustain recovery. At Brighter Day Detox, every client is assigned a primary counselor who provides individual sessions throughout their residential stay.
What to Expect
Therapeutic Approaches
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Identifies and changes negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to substance use. CBT is one of the most evidence-based approaches in addiction treatment.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation and commitment to change. Particularly effective in early recovery.
Trauma-Informed Care
Many people struggling with addiction have experienced trauma. Our counselors are trained to address trauma safely and effectively as part of the recovery process.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Teaches skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness — critical tools for sustained recovery.
Relapse Prevention
Develops personalized strategies to identify triggers, manage cravings, and respond effectively to high-risk situations.
